Roscoe Mitchell

Roscoe Mitchell (3 août 1930) est un saxophoniste, compositeur et enseignant américain, considéré comme l'un des pionniers du jazz avant-gardiste. Membre fondateur de l'Art Ensemble of Chicago, Mitchell est reconnu pour son approche innovante et expérimentale de la musique jazz.

Biographie

Né à Chicago, Illinois, Roscoe Mitchell a commencé sa carrière musicale dans les années 1950. Il a été membre de l'Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), un collectif qui a joué un rôle essentiel dans le développement du jazz avant-gardiste. Sa musique est souvent caractérisée par des improvisations audacieuses, des sonorités uniques et des compositions complexes.

Mitchell a également exercé une grande influence en tant qu'éducateur, enseignant à l'Université de Californie à Davis et au California Institute of the Arts, où il a partagé sa vision musicale avec de nombreux étudiants.
