Le groupe Devo a été fondé par [[Mark Mothersbaugh]] et [[Gerald Casale]], inspirés par des expériences personnelles et des idées philosophiques sur la "dévolution" de la société. Leur style musical mêle satire sociale, innovation électronique et performances artistiques.

Leur premier album, ''Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!'' (1978), produit par [[Brian Eno]], a marqué le début de leur succès critique. Ils sont surtout connus pour leur single *"Whip It"* de l'album ''Freedom of Choice'' (1980), qui a atteint un succès commercial international.
